What is a Pointer, Caulker, and Cleaner?

A Pointer, Caulker, and Cleaner repairs and protects the outside of brick, stone, and concrete buildings. They rake out damaged mortar, pack in new mortar between joints, seal cracks and gaps with caulk, and wash or sandblast surfaces to remove grime and stains, often while working from scaffolds. This keeps walls strong, dry, clean, and safer.

Job requirements

  • Must be at least 17 years old.
  • Must be physically able to lift 50-100 pounds.
  • Must have a valid driver's license to operate company vehicles.
  • Must reside within the geographic jurisdiction of Local Union #2 for at least six months prior to application. This includes the counties of Albany, Cayuga, Clinton, Columbia, Schenectady, Schoharie, Warren, Washington, Greene, Rensselaer, Fulton, Hamilton, Montgomery, Saratoga, Essex, Franklin, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, St. Lawrence.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from various job sites and required classes at the approved school.
